The Global Studio is a cross-institutional design course that aims to provide students with skills for working in cross-cultural and geographically distributed work groups. In the course, teams of students in different universities are paired to work together on design projects to act as clients and designers for one another. The Global Studio has been conducted since 2007, and until recently led by Dr Erik Bohemia at Loughborough University.
This year the Global Studio is led by our department, with the participation of the following institutions: University of Suor Orsola Benincasa of Naples in Italy, Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos in Brazil, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil; and Shibaura Institute of Technology in Japan. This year’s theme is “local mobilities” with an interest in the ways people travel in different parts of the world.
Our department has participated in the Global Studio since 2016, under the elective course ID319 Virtual Design Studio run by Pınar Kaygan, Harun Kaygan and İrem Dilek. For further information see the project site at https://vleblog.lboro.ac.uk/gs18/ and also http://theglobalstudio.eu/
