Hello!
I am a full-time Professor of Industrial Design at Middle East Technical University, Turkey. My core expertise as a design researcher and educator spans UX, interaction and materials, as well as studio-based integrated product, service and system design projects. I am co-editor of the influential book series Materials Experience (Elsevier, 2021; 2014). I am a strong advocate for research through design (RtD), having championed this approach to academic design research for over 20 years through publications and supervisions, traced back to my own early adoption of RtD in my PhD (1999). I also hold the position of Honorary Research Fellow at the School of Engineering, University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, having served as a founding member of its Industrial Design BEng/MEng programmes (2014-2017). Prior to my academic career, I worked as a product designer in the sports equipment and musical instrument sectors, co-founding the polymer acoustic guitar innovation venture ‘Cool Acoustics’.
